Ramsay Liem receives Mary Kaye Waldron Award
Prof. Liem's current work focuses on understanding contemporary legacies of significant historical events, e.g. the impact of the Korean War on Korean Americans today. In varying degrees, Liem includes this interest in courses he teaches, Abnormal Psychology, Sociocultural Perspectives on Psychopathology, Culture, Identity, and Asian American Experience, and in other work with students, e.g. advisor to the Asian Caucus and Korean Student Association. Liem is also involved in related issues outside the university with organizations devoted to Korean unification, Asian American media arts, and human rights and mental health. When he can, Liem refuels with a round of tennis or an afternoon of windsurfing.
"I think of the award as recognition by students that Asian-American studies and cultural activities make a positive contribution to the campus as a whole. I hope it brings attention to the students who made the award possible."
